Here is a little something about a self directed IRA. A Self Directed IRA's ownership of a LLC is a special purpose limited liability company which is either fully or partially owned by an IRA or the Individual Retirement Account.
A self directed IRA does have its benefits.
One of these is for an ICO to allow you to hold real estate or other non traditional investments in an IRA with checkbook control. The fact that very few IRA custodians permit direct ownership of real estate or other non traditional investments in an IRA, indirect investment via the ICO is usually the only choice.
One other benefit is when the ICO sells real estate or other investments, the capital gains are deferred through the IRA. 1031 exchanges are never even necessary because of this.
And since you control and handle all ICO transactions, the custodian for the IRA can be paid an inexpensive flat fee for typically under $200 per year. Not bad, right?
