The Octopus Card In Hongkong

The octopus card is a smart card that can be used as payment in bus, trains and even food establishments. It is integral part of everyday life in Hong Kong.

You can buy one of these when you arrive in the airport. Just look for any customer service booth or concierge and ask about it.

It costs 150HKD wherein 100HKD is consumable while 50HKD is for deposit which will be reimbursed to you when you return it back. An amount of around 7HKD will be deducted from your remaining balance when you return the Octopus card to them signifying a rental fee.

You can reload your octopus card within any MTR stations or in any 7-Eleven outlets. There are many 7-Eleven outlets scattered around Hongkong so there should be no problem for you to have your Octopus card reloaded.
